LEHNER WATERFALL VIA FERRATA

A sporty challenge combined with a spectacular nature experience - the anniversary via ferrata along Lehner Waterfall offers all a good via ferrata needs to have.

The access is a short walk from Lehn. The car park for climbers is in the forest south of the local heritage museum. Follow the bends through the larch forest to get to the access - a vantage platform offering a fantastic view, by the way.

Of the two via ferratas it is the less difficult one, but still stamina, sure-footedness and alpine experience are essential. It is not as exposed as the Schiestl via ferrata, but still you have to conquer 160m in altitude across generously placed clamps and rungs along Lehner waterfall. From the middle of the via ferrata one enjoys a fantastic view of the waterfall and the valley.

Highlight of the tour is a 30° degree overhanging section. If you dare not make this final part you can sidestep it without difficulty to get to the exit at 1,450m. Follow the steep bends back to Lehn (signpost) right of the exit.

REINHARD SCHIESTL VIA FERRATA

This via ferrata was named after the climbing pioneer Reinhard Schiestl and is one of the classic via ferratas of Tirol.

The access is brief and soon gives way to an exposed route. The well-secured and groomed via ferrata covers an altitude gain of some 250m.

This relatively difficult route features some extremely exposed passages. All along the route is secured by a wire rope, clamps and rungs. Enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Burgstein at the end. Geigenkamm mountain at the backdrop forms the perfect setting for enjoying a well-deserved break.

The access is in the foothills of Burgsteiner Wand face. It is best to take a turn at the southern end of Längenfeld ("Asthlehn" village sign). A signpost at the federal road leads to the car park for climbers. The descending trail follows the signs to Längenfeld. From there it is a 2km walk back to Astlehn (walking time: approx. 45 minutes).
